BSC Hit Athletic for Eight

BSC Glasgow 8 – 3 Preston Athletic :: Ferrari Packaging Lowland League :: Indodrill Stadium, Alloa :: 26th November 2016

Written by Sam Jenkinson

Seven different goalscorers saw BSC Glasgow blow away Preston Athletic and put themselves up to fifth in the Lowland League table.

A double from Blair Lyons topped off goals from Shaun Bowers, Robbie Duncan, Aidan Ferris, Lewis Bell, Gary Redpath and Tom Woods as BSC netted their highest number of goals in a single game.

Lyons came into the side for Woods after he netted a well-deserved equaliser last week as Mark Adams’ named an otherwise unchanged side.

BSC were ahead within six minutes. Shaun Bowers picked up a loose ball inside his own half, before driving forward unchallenged by the Preston midfield. With Ferris and Lyons ahead of him, the Celtic loanee spotted Bruce Callan off his line and perfectly dinked it over the keeper from 25 yards.

And Duncan doubled that lead 10 minutes later. BSC again attacked well through the middle of the park, before the ball was spread to Lyons on the right. He found Ferris in the middle, who held off the defender and laid in Duncan to finish.

The visitors brought it within one only seconds later, however. A driving run into the area by Fabio Neto saw his shot deflect off a BSC defender right to Keith Murray, who prodded home from inside the six-yard box.

BSC continued to dominate proceedings and regained their two goal cushion before the half hour mark. After dropping off towards the middle of the park, Ferris played a great ball straight between two Preston defenders, and a clinical finish from Lyons left Callan stranded.

Ferris added one of his own as half time approached. A short free kick to Bowers was floated towards Mark Toner, who won the knock down and placed it perfectly to Ferris who finished well.

There was still time for another before the break, as centre-back Lewis Bell got in on the act, with a lovely strike from outside the box curling past Callan and nestling in the bottom right corner.

BSC were four goals to the good at the break and were immediately given the opportunity to extend that lead after Lyons was taken down by a combination of Preston defenders inside the area, but Callan made a superb stop from Ferris’ penalty.

The visitors then had the better of the early second half, and gained a goal for their efforts. Neto finished after Joe Wilton made a good stop after a number of corners in succession.

Lyons, Riccardo Corrieri and Ferris were then denied by Callan and two different defenders on the line as three shots from inside the box didn’t make it in.

Redpath did add another, after BSC worked the ball across the park and found the dynamic midfielder making his way into the area from the left to fire home.

Danny O’Rourke then found another goal for Preston, with a great run down the middle giving him space to slot into Joe Wilton’s bottom left corner.

With 15 minutes to go, there was still time for a couple more goals for BSC as Lyons found his second of the afternoon. Substitute Ryan Holms won a knockdown after a long ball forward and left the striker through to finish.

Matt Graham then saw red for the visitors after an off the ball incident before Woods put the icing on the cake for his side. Given space to turn, he finished brilliantly from way outside the area as BSC eventually ran out winners by eight goals to three.

BSC now have a weekend off before the visit of Gretna 2008 on the 10th of December. Woods, Redpath and Ferris all netted the last time the sides met in September as BSC ran out 3-1 winners at Raydale Park.

Team: Wilton; Bowers (Woods 45), Toner, Bell, Keys (Traynor 55); Duncan, Cunningham, Redpath; Corrieri; Ferris (Holms 73), Lyons

Not Used: Barr (GK)
