BSC Glasgow continued their unbeaten start to the season

BSC Glasgow 4 - 0 Whitehill Welfare :: Ferrari Packaging Lowland League :: Indodrill Stadium, 16th September 2017

BSC Glasgow continued their unbeaten start to the season on Saturday with a commanding 4-0 win over Whitehill Welfare at the Indodrill Stadium.

BSC were quick to assert their dominance on the game as captain Ross McMillan’s lofted pass down the left opened up the Whitehill defence, allowing Stephen Murray the time and space to pick out Martin Grehan who headed home from close range.

The direct nature of BSC’s play appeared a never-ending struggle for Whitehill as they tried to obtain a foothold in the game. Even when allowed space, there were rarely any signs of the quality required to unlock the BSC defence.

Their best chance of the half came when the young Jack Wright manufactured some space for himself and played in a dangerous looking cross which managed to evade both Josh McArthur and goalkeeper Ryan Marshall. Unfortunately, though, Gary Nicholson arrived just too late at the back post to make any contact.

BSC continued to press, enjoying the lion’s share of possession and they got their reward eventually. A foul on Grehan led to Murray curling home a delightful free-kick from 30 yards to double BSC’s lead. And they weren’t finished there.

Clearly not content with going in at half-time only 2-0 up, the BSC bombardment continued as another free-kick from Murray found McArthur who’s looping header beat the keeper only to be tapped in on the line by Jack Smith. Calls for offside were waved away as BSC went into half time with a resounding lead over the visitors.

The second half saw much of the same with the Whitehill defence being unlocked almost at will by the marauding BSC attack. Murray and Robbie Duncan proved pivotal in the midfield, ensuring there was no respite for visitors’ defence.

Wasteful finishing stopped the game from ending in a cricket score which may be a slight worry for manager, Stephen Swift, for the weeks to come. However, BSC were able to convert their dominance into another goal before full time.

An opportunist dart inside off the left wing from Gary Redpath opened up the Whitehill defence once again before he slotted the ball past the onrushing Billy Taylor. The midfielder showed the composure that had perhaps gone slightly awry for the rest of the team in a commanding second half display.

More late chances came and went for the home side but the damage had already been done. A dejected Whitehill side would have been glad to hear the final whistle as the hosts’ only complaint could have been that they only ended up with four on the back of another impressive display.

It sets them up nicely for a return to Scottish Cup action next weekend as the Glasgow side take on Dalbeattie Star at the Indodrill Stadium on Sunday. Having beaten them already this season, BSC will be confident that this dream start to the season can continue.
