BSC vs Bridgend
BSC Clyde 2013s | 1st of march 2025
The 2013 side BSC Clyde play in the CSFA red division which is the second division. This team, alongside many others, have moved to this league structure from the Glasgow district – a move which coaches at BSC have seen the benefits of. The team are currently underway with their season of nine aside, ahead of the incoming transition to eleven aside.
The team have had an inconsistent season, struggling to form a full squad some weeks due to the school team set up at Notre Dame primary school. Generally, this isn’t an issue as they have been able to form a team every week, it’s just a shame that the results often do not reflect the strength of ability. However, I do believe it is very important for kids to play and enjoy their school team – from experience, it can be some of the best times in a player’s life.
Clyde has some serious talent in their team and always have. With players like Kosi Nawankwo, Jude Flynn, Nathan Donnelly, and newest addition Jude Gallagher, this team often leaves their coaches puzzled to how they have come away from games with a loss. But nonetheless, over the years the team have become more solid, and their fight has skyrocketed. These boys are determined to win games now and have the ability to do so.
First game after the break, Saturday 1st of March, Clyde faced Bridgend away from home, who right before the winter break beat a Clyde that only had a squad of nine 4-1.
From the refs first blow Clyde showed they wanted to have redemption against this side after what was a somewhat hot-headed defeat the last time round. Clyde were here to show they could match them in fight and surpass them with ability. The away side got an early lead through striker Mati Mcaig who tapped it in after the ball bounced back at him off the keeper on the fifth minute of this game. Clyde were controlling this game well early on, having good patterns of play in transition from defence to midfield. Then, ten minutes into the game from centre midfield, Kosi took a heavy touch round Bridgend’s left back and set himself up to rifle it in the far corner with a truly wonderful finish - leaving the keeper to watch the ball whiz by him and BSC to be two up ten minutes in.
Clyde began to face a reoccurring phenomenon. The team conceded a sloppy own goal from a corner around 12 minutes into the game. The control of the game that Clyde had was now lost and they were the ones under pressure, despite being the only team playing any football for the first 15 minutes of the game. This is something that happens to this team a lot, sometimes lacking confidence within themselves. Those who have watched this team frequently know this better than anyone, but as soon as this team are put under pressure they can crumble. Now, that’s got nothing to do with talent or ability but the desire to win. Bridgend scored another corner a few minutes after their first making the game 2-2.
Not long after their equalizer, however Bridgend they were one behind again due to a break from Kosi who dinked it over the keeper, completing a beautifully cheeky finish to put BSC back in the driving seat at 3-2 with the first half finished.
The second half began, and Bridgend came out flying, scoring yet another corner to make the game level once again. Clyde struggled to get a foothold in this second half, not able to break free from the press the way they were in the first half. All this pressure eventually came in the favor of Bridgend as they scored from yet another corner to be the team ahead for the first time in the game making it 4-3.
This was the moment Kosi Nawankwo decided he wasn’t losing this game, and neither was his team. Through Kosi’s hard work and sheer fight in the middle of the park he managed to find a pass to Umar, who stuck it in the back of the net to equalize the game. Before they knew it, BSC were back in front, as Kosi found the pass once again to Jude, who for the first time finished it to put BSC 5-4 up at the end of the game.
Overall, this was a great performance from Clyde, showing how far they have come - a year or so ago, that game might have been lost at 4-3 to Bridgend. Man of the match goes to Kosi, as he does nine times out of ten.
